Thailand Painting Holidays

paint on the banks of the Mekong River

A wonderful combination of painting tuition and Thai culture in a small guest house on the banks of the Mekong River at Phon Phisai in NE Thailand.  During the dry cool months of October to January each year the guesthouse provides a combination of painting tuition and Thai rural culture experience to 4 guests each week.

The visits are individually tailored to provide the level of tuition and Thai experience that each visitor seeks.  This website contains details of the tuition, experiences and facilities together with prices and booking facilities.

Hunting a pig for dinner

WARNING

This contains images of pigs being killed.  If you don't like seeing animals killed please don't read this.

We often roast a pig for celebrations and on this occasion I went with my brother-in-law Tao to get the pig.  We drove through some farms not far from the village and came to a fenced area with trees, bushes and lots of pigs running around.

Tau had a typical homemade (I don't know who makes them but they look homemade) muzzle loading gun.  I was going to say rifle but I don't suppose the barrel was rifled.   He disassembled the gun, loaded it with some gunpowder, shot and wadding (maybe shredded bamboo), tamped it all down and reassembled the barrel.  He set a fuse with caps from a child's cap gun and set off to find a pig.

I maintained a safe distance between myself and Tau as he disappeared into the bushes.

There was one bang and he emerged with a dead young pig which they prepared back at the house and roasted.  Good eating.

If you would like to go on a pig hunt during your photography and painting Thailand discovery holiday we can ask Tau if he will take you.
